OPERATION TOOFAN 2.0

Operation Toofan (Operation Toofan: The Narco Hunt) is a widespread anti-narcotics drive being implemented under the leadership of the Kerala Home Department and the Kerala Police to curb the spread and use of illicit drugs in Kerala.

The main details of this initiative are as follows:

  • Objective: To break the supply chain of drug mafias in the state, prevent drug trafficking and usage, and protect students and youth from drug abuse.

  • Coordination: It is executed jointly by the Kerala Police alongside various departments including Excise, Local Self-Government (LSGD), Education, Health, as well as Central Agencies.

  • Key Actions:

    • Strict inspections at schools, colleges, hostels, resorts, DJ party venues, and similar locations.

    • Information gathering and surveillance of drug traffickers and repeat offenders.

    • Stringent legal actions, including the confiscation of assets of individuals involved in drug cases.

    • Toofan Local / Janasena: Expanding anti-drug initiatives and preventive awareness programs up to the ward level.

    • Identifying individuals addicted to drugs and referring them to rehabilitation centers for treatment.
